Nostalgia Trip #3: THE KAISERINE'S CHAMPION

"Jintsu is a Japanese word, which means both 'wonderful godly works' and 'labor pains.' I can't think of a more appropriate word with which to describe Eggplant Literary Productions, Inc.'s new imprint of electronic fiction."

Jintsu was publisher Raechel Henderson Moon's brainchild, a Sci-Fi/Fantasy cornucopia of multi-format e-texts that really deserved to pull in more business during its alas-too-short lifetime. Pleased I was when Roach accepted The Kaiserine's Champion, blurbed as:

Given a straight choice between having his neck stretched and fighting for his life in the Arena for the Kaiserine's pleasure, Manfred picks the slightly less fatal option. But no one bothered to mention he'd be up against vampyres. Certainly not the sinister Otto Thenck, head of the Ministry of State Security, better known as "The Magician" because he makes people disappear....

The 27,000-word novella is a tad long to post here, so instead here's a viewable version. Click on the graphic:

Three years later Roach was kind enough to also accept the long-awaited (or so I like to delude myself) sequel, THE VAMPYRE'S KISS.

...I clicked on a few links the other day and found an entry for The Kaiserine's Champion in Fictionwise's cache. Here are the reader ratings:
